Distraction I/II

Distraction I/II is a pair of trios choreographed and performed by Rachel Maddock, Hana Rutka, and Samantha Presley, conceived during their creative residency at Mascall Dance in early 2019.

This work premiered across two performances—Bloom and Chalk It Up—in April 2019. The performance used fabric not just as stage material, but as a powerful metaphor for connectivity and obstruction. The artists explored how proximity, disconnection, and tactile interaction navigate one another when the body’s lines are both revealed and hidden.

Through their movements, the dancers investigated "Connection through Obstructions," allowing the fabric both to obscure and to unite—to challenge boundaries even while inviting engagement.
